Women Working in Development event
Monday, 10th December 2018
BDO London Office
Our next Women Working in Development networking event will be focused on managing work-life balance, whilst working in the sector.
We look to celebrate and recognise the diversity in working and living patterns of women working in the development sector. We will guide participants through a series of mini presentations, as a way of stimulating more intimate conversation.
In a sector which can require substantial international travel and working across time zones, women can find themselves trying to balance the commitments of work and home. This includes the realities of maintaining relationships over long-distances; caring for children, partners or family members; or managing chronic conditions or illnesses, both physical and mental. These are areas that apply to men as well as women. However, we recognise the tendency for women to take the mental load for domestic work, and are particularly interested in addressing these issues from a gender-specific perspective.
Whether we find ourselves managing priorities in our own careers, or simply work with, manage, or are managed by women doing so, we believe these are important conversations to stimulate. This more intimate presentation set-up is an ideal opportunity to do this.
Our presenters have a range of different experiences working in the development sector. They will share with us their experiences of maintaining work-life balance and include, among others:
ROISIN HOOD - BDO LLP - Working with children
ANASUYA PRABHU - BDO LLP - Long-term postings in fragile contexts
